GOURMET & Henssler's Kitchen – Blogger Event in the Hanseatic City
Today I'll tell you a little about the gourmet blogger event I was invited to. About two weeks ago, Hamburg was my own little gourmet paradise. GOURMET had invited 10 bloggers to the Hanseatic city to visit Henssler's kitchen.
Ah, what a fantastic weekend! The weather was absolutely perfect. I got to meet lots of bloggers, enjoy delicious food, and even get to use the whisk, or rather, the immersion blender. This weekend was definitely good for me, and I'll be raving about it for a long time.
But wait, let's start from the beginning: a few months ago, I was sent to Hamburg by an agency I've been working with for some time to a Blogger Event Invited by GOURMET. Super… Awesome… Brilliant, I thought when I found the invitation in the mailbox… me in Henssler's kitchen… Amazing. Is he there too? Will I see him? A selfie of Henssler and me? Man… I thought that was BRILLIANT!
Friday, May 28, 2016 – Central Station… 8 a.m. I was on the ICE train to Hamburg. Two changes and I was there. A glance at my watch, it was now 1:20 p.m., 25 minutes late, and I was in the Hanseatic city… Finally!
The blogger event wasn't until the following day, but I had met up with my blogger friend Silvia from the blog Filine blogs We met up the day before so we'd have time to explore Hamburg and chat. Suitcases in the locker and off we went...shopping and eating were on the agenda. After going from one shop to another and buying a few things here and there, we went to the Schanzenviertel district and ate at Tim Wälzer's BULLEREI restaurant, followed by a nightcap at the Altes Mädchen brewpub.
Blogger Event – Henssler's Kitchen, here I come…
We were welcomed by the agency staff in the beautiful "Hensslers Küche" at the Hamburg harbor. Everyone received a name tag, a delicious ice-cold lavender sparkling wine, and then there was plenty of chatting, as is typical when bloggers meet with whom they only communicate via social media.
That was the second one, by the way. Blogger Event from GOURMET, to which I was invited. A year ago I was invited to a fantastic cooking event in Cologne… ahem, ahem… unfortunately, I didn't manage to write about it because we had a bereavement and I didn't have the strength to talk about it.
But wait… Before we could all tie on our kitchen aprons… Henssler's Kitchen and while we were preparing our dinners, there was a short presentation by Maike Grünwald The topic was "Stylish Living with Cats." As a cat owner myself, I found it very insightful and interesting. At the end, we all moved the chairs closer together and talked about our cats: their behavior, the decor, and what they like to do. In a relaxed and informal atmosphere, we all had a great time chatting and enjoying each other's company.
Then it was time to eat: knives were swung, pans were heated, and vegetables were chopped – cooking began… a four-course meal.
The meal began with a Balkan shrimp and papaya salad, followed by a beetroot capriccio with lemon butter and caramelized macadamia nuts. The main course was beef fillet with teriyaki sauce, spicy tomato and potato mash, fish, and a kimchi sesame chip. The meal concluded with deep-fried ice cream and marinated strawberries.
I think the pictures say it all…without me having to write much more here.
It was a truly unforgettable, fantastic evening. Wonderfully organized, and in the greatest city in the world! Hamburg is a beautiful city and always worth a visit. Since Steffen Henssler unfortunately wasn't there, we got his latest book... personally signed 🙂
Many thanks again to Solvej, Maria (who unfortunately couldn't be there), and the entire GOURMET team for the invitation to this wonderful blogger event. Thanks also to photographer Daniel, whose photos (some of them) I was allowed to use in this post.

An event with food sounds great. Especially if you get to help prepare it – unforgettable! Seems like it was a lovely weekend 🙂
Hi Nancy, a cooking event where you can also participate is great! Although the chef did a lot, ahem... ahem... Love, Tina-Maria
Wow, what a great weekend!!
Best regards, Anna
Great impressions! I always enjoy looking at things like this, and your pictures turned out wonderfully. It's a shame it didn't work out with Henssler, but I think it was great nonetheless!
Best regards
Hi, I'm going back to Hamburg sometime and I'm definitely going to eat at one of his restaurants. I've made up my mind to do that. But even without him, it was wonderful. Best, Tina-Maria
Hi Tina-Maria,
Wow, what an event! 😉 Even though I don't really like H. He can cook, though! 😀
Beautiful photos, and I'm sure you learned a lot too.
GLG Diana
Hi Diana, I would have loved to see you live... what a shame. But it was great and the food was delicious. Yes, I picked up quite a few tips. Best regards, Tina-Maria
